About Elvis (12A)
Elvis follows the story of infamous rock n roll star Elvis Presley seen through the eyes of his controversial manager Colonel Tom Parker. The film explores Elvis Presley's highs and lows and the many challenges and controversies he received throughout his career.
RCA purchased Elvis's contract from Sam Phillips and Sun Studio for $35,000 which at the time made it the largest amount ever paid by a record label for a contract. Even with Elvis Sun and Phillips were always on the brink of debt because Phillips didn't have the means necessary to cut records at a cost and pace as a larger record company. The $35,000 was a financial windfall which kept Sun in business for years and helped Phillips launch other notable Sun stars like Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and others.
