Herts Visual Arts Forum

The Herts Visual Arts Forum (HVAF) is the only countywide visual arts organisation for Hertfordshire. It is run by an enthusiastic voluntary organising group, with members from all areas of involvement in the visual arts. Membership includes professional and aspiring artists as well as art lovers. In Dacorum HVAF has nearly 50 members active in areas as diverse as photography, pottery, watercolours, and sculpture. Thirteen local members are exhibiting as part of the Dacorum Creative Showcase.

Kris Gruber

Kris is a photographer producing images that are as far removed from traditional photograpy as you can get. A variety of editing techniques including image blending, produce images that are vibrant and exciting.

Sally Bassett

Sally holds an Honours Degree in Fine Art and is a dedicated painter. She lives and works in the small Chiltern village of Aldbury.

The essence of Sally’s work is its joy, energy , vitality and colour. Her landscapes follow the seasons of the year; her seascapes capture the energy and excitement of the West Country coasts.

John Durham

John paints geological landscapes in vibrant acrylics. In his paintings he uses colour and form to explore and reveal the structure and geology of landscapes, using vibrant acrylic colours and tints, to illustrate the composition of these exciting places.

Caroline Waterstone

Caroline is at the beginning of her artistic journey and paints subjects in bold colours in semi-abstract styles, allowing the viewer to imagine for themselves what the subject may be.

Cal Hoy

Cal Celebrates the beauty of the things she sees. Cal works in pastel, coloured pencil, ink, watercolour, or a mixture of media to draw pets, people, and other living things. Cal draws to explore & document the world around her, and loves the simple act of making a mark and the challenge of capturing the essence of living things.

Gillian Dalgas-Wright

Gillian loves to paint dogs, but not exclusively! She also paints other subjects including landscapes, still lifes and cats.

Terri Bailey

Terri is profoundly influenced by the natural world and its influence on us. She seeks colour and pattern in the world around her, and explores the harmony and balance of the natural world to display our lived reality in an abstract or sometimes magically realistic way.

Amber Mayhew

Amber is a self-taught artist and illustrator who works primarily in watercolour. As a primary school teacher, she enjoys exploring art forms with children. She finds that the act of creation generates an incredible feeling, separating her from the harder parts of life.

Edwina Wilks

Edwina is active across multiple art forms including painting, print making, mixed media, and ceramics. Her mixed media work in particular has a strong tactile element to it, using materials to complement or sometimes combat the subject matter.

Katharine Harper

Katharine works in a mix of media: illustration (ink & watercolour, and digital illustration), semi-abstract painting in acrylics, and photography using multiple image layering techniques. For several years her comfort zone has been doodling away in her sketchbook journal at the end of the day. This has now developed into quite complex and elaborate doodles to celebrate and record events and memories!

Andy Hill

Andy is an artist based in Boxmoor, Hertfordshire. Working in a wide range of mediums including acrylic, gouache, and watercolour, he enjoys printing using glass, lino, and a form of woodblock that utilises recycled materials. Recent works include creating digital art using Procreate on an iPad. The flexibility and breadth of techniques that can be deployed have been used for portraiture, landscapes, and abstract creations.

Jose Zavala

An Argentine artist and architect whose multidisciplinary work explores resilience, transition, and human experience through sculpture, installation, and conceptual art. Raised in an artistic environment, he pursued art to address his inner sense of scarcity. Trained in fine art at Newlyn School of Art (2021–22) and holding a PhD in Architecture from the Architectural Association, his practice merges structural precision with expressive depth. His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows such as "Submerged Flow, Art, and Resilience" (2023) in Argentina. Notable commissions include The Phoenix (2006–08), a 40-tonne urban sculpture in the UK.
