The Old Town Hall is set to embrace a greener future after securing a transformative £19,500 grant from the Theatres Trust’s Theatre Improvement Scheme, in partnership with the Wolfson Foundation.
As a vibrant cultural hub housed within a historic Grade II listed building (c. 1852), the venue balances a rich heritage with a forward-thinking artistic programme—ranging from educational collaborations with Little Angel Theatre to developing new theatre with local companies. This vital funding will action a key recommendation from our recent Decarbonisation Strategy: the installation of comprehensive loft insulation. This upgrade effectively bridges the gap between our Victorian architecture and modern sustainability goals, set to reduce carbon emissions by 5.7 tonnes annually. The resulting energy efficiency will save approximately £3,000 per year—crucial funds that will be reinvested directly into bringing world-class arts and community engagement to our stage.
"We are thrilled to receive this support from the Theatres Trust and the Wolfson Foundation. Caring for a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian building comes with unique challenges, particularly when it comes to energy efficiency. This grant is a game-changer for us; it allows us to tackle our environmental impact head-on by significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Most importantly, the money we save on energy bills—around £3,000 a year—won’t just be saved; it will be poured back into what we do best: creating exciting new work and engaging with our local community."
