News :Thrilled To Announce New Co-Production with Little Angel Theatre
News Story
The Old Town Hall is proud that a captivating new co-production with iconic North London puppetry theatre, Little Angel Theatre, will be the shining star of its Autumn/Winter 2024 season.
Scruff’s Christmas Adventure follows the tail (pun intended!) of a tiny puppy frantically searching for a last-minute Christmas gift. An adventurous journey filled with magical puppetry, hilarious characters, and lots of giggles, Scruff’s Christmas Adventure is a treat for children aged 3-9 and their families.
We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Little Angel Theatre on this magical production. Scruff’s Christmas Adventure is the perfect show to conclude our Autumn/Winter season, offering families an unforgettable festive experience.
- Stewart Fairthorne, The Old Town Hall Theatre Manager
This exciting new collaboration combines the charm of puppetry with the warm, welcoming atmosphere of Hemel Hempstead’s historic venue. We’re excited to create a joyous family experience, capturing the spirit of the season through the playful and heartwarming tale of Scruff.

THE AUTUMN/WINTER 2024 PROGRAMME
STAND UP’S
This season is packed with big-name comedians hot off the comedy circuit, including Mark Simmons (winner of 2024 Funniest Joke of the Fringe at Edinburgh); Lucy Porter (Mock the Week); Kerry Godliman (Live at The Apollo); Russell Hicks (Stand Up Sketch Show), and the monthly Screaming Blue Murder Comedy Club.
DRAMA
Theatre classics show a strong hand this season, with a particularly ghoul-some offering to sink your fangs into for Halloween. Clair/Obscur Theatre present gripping drama Lord Byron: Dangerous To Know, uncovering sordid secrets about the poet’s scandalous love affair; Nigel Miles-Thomas makes a tour-de-force performance as all fourteen characters in Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act; Nightmares’ three tales of terror will leave you quaking in your seat this October, whilst the horror-averse can enjoy jokes and farce aplenty as The Ghost of a Smile and The Comedy of Terrors puts an alternative spin on creepy season. The theatre programme is lovingly rounded off with resident theatre company Dyad’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol, returning to The Old Town Hall following a near sell-out run in 2023.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY
A stellar family offering is interwoven into the programme, including Adventures in Science, featuring the Magical Mr West and cartoon Crowbert on a journey of scientific discovery, skills, and silliness; time travel craft-a-long Boxville, where kids can make and take home cardboard creations; monster-iffic In the Dead of the Night, and riotous comedy Mr Sleepybum.
FILM & MUSIC
Each Tuesday audiences can watch a variety of this year’s hit films, including The Dead Don’t Hurt; American Fiction; The Bikeriders, and the National Theare Live screening of Jodie Comer’s Olivia and Tony-award winning performance in Prima Facie.
Local Hemel Hempstead band OWES headline in the Cellar Club for September’s Live at The Old Town Hall – expect guitar-driven beats, driving bass, and rhythmic synth lines; Monday Night Musicals brings the electrifying energy of London’s West End direct to your seat in an evening of song, dance, and theatricality; singer-songwriter Harriet (***** - Graham Norton) performs the nostalgic sounds of the 70s for one night only; Music, Mayhem, and a Mezzo astounds with original comic songs, outlandishly mashed-up with a filthily operatic sense of humour.
